Northern Ireland's Alan Campbell lost to in-form Dutchman Roel Braas in the semi-finals of the single sculls event at the Henley Regatta on Saturday.
The 31-year-old from Coleraine was beaten by three lengths by Braas, who will now face New Zealander Mahe Drysdale in Sunday's final.
Campbell was returning to competition following the birth of his daughter.
The Olympic bronze medallist is set to be in action again in next week's World Cup Rowing event in Lucerne.
Campbell had safely negotiated his first round race in the Diamond Sculls, against Hamish Playfair of Sydney University.
He won by an official 'easily' verdict over his Australian opponent on Friday.
At last year's regatta, Campbell lost to Alexsandr Aleksandrov of Azerbaijan in the final of the Diamond Single Sculls.
