St Helens coach Royce Simmons is backing winger Ade Gardner to make an early return after undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon.
The 27-year-old suffered the injury during Friday's 28-12 victory over the Crusaders at the Stobart Stadium.
"The operation went well and he's up for a few hard months of rehab," Simmons told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"It's between four to five months before he can play - hopefully he'll be back for the last part of the season."
Simmons added: "The medical staff have done well and had him in and operated on Sunday, so we've moved as quickly as we could to get him back on the park."
