Featherstone Rovers have given Ben Cockayne the chance to resurrect his career after his release by Hull KR.

Cockayne and Robins team-mate Liam Watts were suspended by Rovers last month after a police incident.

The 28-year-old was on a final warning at Craven Park and has joined Rovers for the rest of the season.

"I know he is delighted to get the opportunity to complete the season by helping achieve our potential," said Featherstone coach Daryl Powell.

"Ben is a high-quality player who provides great energy and speed to a rugby league team.

"Our outside backs needed an addition with the recent departure of Liam Welham and Ben is the type of player to add significantly to the squad."

Cockayne, who began his career with Doncaster, was unable to join another Super League club because the transfer deadline passed earlier this month.

In 2009, Cockayne received a 12-month suspended sentence for assault causing actual bodily harm and Rovers suspended him for two months.

While Cockayne will spend the rest of this campaign with the Championship leaders, Watts has been welcomed back into the fold at Hull KR and has resumed training with his club after having the suspension lifted.
