Harlequins prop Karl Temata has signed a new one-year contract extension until the end of the 2012 season.

"It's great to re-sign Karl who has been one of our most consistent performers over the last few years," said coach Rob Powell.

"He's still one of the strongest props in Super League and it's good to have someone that has been with us for a while to balance the new players."

The long-serving 33-year-old joined the London Super League club in 2005.

The Cook Islands international was named the club's player of the year in 2009. But, after injury restricted him to 13 appearances in 2010, he ran in three tries in 23 appearances this season.

Harlequins finished 12th in Super League under new coach Powell, managing just two wins in their final 22 games after starting the season with four victories from their first five matches.

But they have already made 10 new signings for 2012, the latest of them being Australian prop Jarrad Hickey.
