York City Knights have agreed new contracts with Matt Garside and Tom Bush for the 2012 season.

Second-row Garside, 21, and full-back Bush, 21, joined the club last year and became first team regulars.

Coach Chris Thorman said: "The squad is starting to take shape and we're delighted these two are staying.

"They're both excellent trainers and give 100% every time they take to the field and I'm sure that we will see further improvements from them."

He added: "They also offer us a utility value with Matty in the back row or the centres and Tom at full-back or on the wing which will be very important for us going forward."

Garside joined the Knights from Gateshead Thunder and is an international student while Bush joined from Leeds Rhinos.

Meanwhile the club has also been in talks with former players Luke Hardbottle and Mark Applegarth who have spent the past season playing in Australia.

Both players have offers to return to Australia but they have indicated they would like to return to York if they were to stay in England.
