Whitehaven full-back Craig Benson has signed a new one-year contract at the Recreation Ground for the 2012 Championship One season.

The 26-year-old who joined the club on professional terms in 2006 following a stint with amateur side Kells, scored three tries in 19 games in 2011.

Benson was also a member of the Cumbria side that reached the Rugby League Nines final last term.

He becomes the sixth player to tie themselves to the Marras this winter.

Luke Isakka, Andrew Beattie, Lee Doran, Scott McAvoy and Martyn Wilson have all agreed new deals under new head coach Don Gailer.
