Leigh Centurions have signed prop Rob Parker after his contract expired at Salford City Reds.

It is a return to the town for the 30-year-old, after he made his first steps in the game at amateur side Leigh East.

"Being my hometown club it's certainly going to be an interesting reception," he told BBC Radio Manchester.

The Centurions have also signed prop Michael Ostick, 23, and confirmed full-back Jonny Pownall has signed a new one-year contract.

Parker suffered with a succession of injuries during his time at the Willows and after gaining full fitness struggled to break into the team last season.

The former Reds skipper spent time the final few months of last season on loan at Castleford, playing eight times including the Tigers' Challenge Cup semi-final loss to Leeds.

Asked if he was disappointed to be leaving Salford, Parker replied: "No, not at all.

"I enjoyed my time there towards the start of my career, but towards the end a few things kind of fell out of favour, I wasn't playing as much and I had my fair share of injuries as well.

"I couldn't get back into the team for whatever reason that may be. I enjoyed my time there even though it was a brief stint."
