Widnes half-back Rhys Hanbury believes they are capable of making the Super League play-offs this season.
The 26-year-old Australian joined from Crusaders in the close season ahead of Widnes' return to the top flight.
Hanbury told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We want to compete in the top eight and make our home a fortress.
"All the boys will be striving to have a good season and we'll take it from there. We are a new young team and I think we'll go well this season."
He added: "We've gelled pretty good so far. We've had two friendlies, one against Warrington which was hard for us.
"Against Swinton I think we were a bit scratchy at the start but I think we will come together nicely. We've also one or two players to come back into the side."
