Can't believe the RU comments on how their sport is 'bigger'. OF COURSE IT IS, RL WAS BANNED e.g. in the armed fores until less than 20 years ago, same for the police - I remember the Met police ARLFC being banned from the Mets own facilities !! RU COLLUDED with Vichy regime WW2 -SHAMEFUL. Now playing field is level RL is expanding in every direction. Ironic how RU now copies every move RL make
Have to laugh at the slagging of between RU and RL fans. When all is said and done both are fringe sports that attract few fans week in and week out. Nothing wrong in that - it's not football.I see RL on their website are so happy Super League is averaging 67,000 fans a week - not for a single game mind you - for the whole list of fixtures. Patriots/Rams got 84,000 at Wembley.
SOS gav for winding up,by the way saintgeoffrey league and union are very similar in terms of exposure and media, both of them lag behind Ozzie rules though.
Pretty typical really. RU fans bad mouthing RL, and RL fans being negative. We had no one else to play, but still time for good prep. France should be better over 2 games. I think players were impressed with going to South Africa, and should hopefully sway a few players to stay if RU offers come in. As for Sinfield in halves, with no Widdop or Chase and Macca using Burrow well at hooker who else?
PR disaster for RL and a two test series against France promises more of the same. Shame really as england might have a team that could trouble the Aussies at the mo.
International rugby league is a joke and when the only national TV coverage it gets is this ridiculous autumn series is looks even more ridiculous. Kevin Sinfield in the halves, thats forward thinking from McNamara, hopefully he can have his best international performance ever and kick us to a one point win against PNG.
75 that is a good point but i do think there are enough Overseas players in super league to put out a decent side at the end of the season i would have included them in this tournament, and expand the exiles to 3 games next year as for wars of the rose type of concept they tried that wasn't intense enough and most fans complaied about having it in the frist place
Playing Exiles off-season won't work. Players staying fit when not their national team instead of resting with family down under not feasible. England should play NZ during SOO next season (NRL clubs release Qland + NSW players - surely Kiwis and England players?), in Dubai or Hong Kong. Add a couple of Exiles games and final game v France/ PNG just before, be pretty good run up.
Juggernaut,Have u got nothing better to do than trying to wind up RL fans. RUs international game is bigger than RLs, so what? Englebert Humperdink kept John Lennon's Imagine off the no. 1 spot in the charts. Does that popularity make him a better musican? No!If u are so impressed with the size of Union as a sport, go on the football notice boards and tell people there RU is the biggest sport
Doesn't matter about viewing figures or attendance all about the game. England had a really good run out. Admittedly Wales were poor but it's all about the build-up to the World Cup!http://wzasport.com/2012/10/29/lions-can-look-forward-to-world-cup-2013/
@71 As with all RU fans - comments are very narrow minded. My observations are accurate and measured - not based on prejudice as is the case with most RU fans. Viewing figures are national and I'm sure you will find that many people watch Super League across the UK. I see Juggernaut hasn't disputed my comments on the relative popularity of the two sports in Australia?
Is the viewing figures for Lancashire and yorkshire
