Salford City Reds: Dave Matthews new named chief executive

Salford City Reds have appointed Dave Matthews as their new chief executive, reports BBC Radio Manchester.

He replaces Ed Farish, who last month, although he will work alongside the new man during a handover period.

Farish, who was formerly director of finance for Australia's NRL, was only appointed by the Reds in February.

Matthews has experience in commercial marketing and finance, but will be taking his first job in rugby league.

"I am hugely excited to get going on what is a serious and sizeable task," he told the club website.

"There is enormous potential in the Salford rugby league club, and it is my job to ensure that we provide solid and innovative backup to the work [Reds head coach] Brian Noble and the coaching staff are doing on the field."

The Reds, owned by multi-millionaire Dr Marwan Koukash, lie second from bottom of Super League.
