Tim Smith's score edged Wakefield ahead after the break, setting up Widnes's fifth loss in six Super League matches.

Betts told BBC Radio Merseyside: "They got in front with a try which I don't believe should've been allowed as Richie Moore's offside.

"The lack of consistency's frustrating - those things are seen every week."

The visitors led 4-0, but the first points of the second half saw Smith pounce when Vikings prop Alex Gerrard spilled the ball in a tackle made by Moore.

Referee Ben Thaler sent the decision to video official Richard Silverwood, to check the grounding and for a knock-on, but not whether Moore was offside at the previous play-the-ball.

Wakefield went on to make it five games unbeaten since

"The officials should see that offside. I could," added Betts.

"It's another frustrating night for everyone. Consistently Wakefield's defence was offside, then their winning try shouldn't have stood.

"That's hard to take, but the reality is we're having a tough run of things."
