Tony Dean, the ex-Hull FC, Castleford, Batley and Hunslet scrum-half, has died after a long battle with cancer.
Dean, 65, passed away at the Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract on Friday.
His greatest career honour was winning the Challenge Cup with Hull FC when they beat Widnes 18-9 in a replay at Elland Road in 1982.
"Tony was a fine player for Hull, a true rugby league character and a fine ambassador for our sport," Hull FC owner Adam Pearson said.
"We all have some great memories of Tony as a player and it was very sad to hear of his passing.
"We will take a moment to reflect on Tony's life and career at Thursday's game against Castleford, and his memory will take centre stage at our annual heritage and memorial weekend at the final round of the season when we host Leeds."
