Forward Eddy Pettybourne has been released from his contract by Wigan Warriors for personal reasons.

The USA international, 26, agreed a two-year deal with the club in the summer of 2013 and made 18 appearances.

General manager Kris Radlinski said problems had escalated during the team's training camp in Florida.

"Being away allowed us to have some deep conversations and in the circumstances it is clearly best for Eddy to cut short his stay," he added.

New Zealand-born Pettybourne made his Warriors debut against Huddersfield Giants in February, having moved from Australian club Wests Tigers, and was contracted until the end of the 2015 season.

"I'll be forever grateful to the Warriors and the fans for their support over the last year," he told the club website.external-link

"I have enjoyed my time here, but sometimes things happen outside your control and this means I have to head back home."
