Warrington Wolves will release utility player Simon Grix at the end of the season but he will remain with the club on the coaching staff.
The 29-year-old fractured his ankle in September 2014 and has been ruled out for the whole of this campaign.
The Ireland international joined Wolves in 2006 from Halifax and is out of contract at the end of this term.
"Unfortunately my injury situation has cut my time at Warrington short," he told the club website.
"I now look forward to another challenge and move on knowing no stone has been left unturned in my recovery - which is getting closer.
"I intend to play on and will consider my options in due course."
