Warrington Wolves captain Joel Monaghan has been released from the club with a year still remaining on his contract.

Gareth O'Brien and Roy Asotasi have also been let go as Warrington continue their on and off-field changes.

It means six players will leave the Super League club, with moves for Richie Myler to Catalans and Chris Bridge to Widnes already announced.

Meanwhile Simon Grix, who missed the whole of the 2015 campaign, has joined the club's performance team.

Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: "While I have expressed our gratitude for each individual, collectively I'd like to thank each of the players for their commitment to the club and wish them well.

"We will always welcome them back in the future."

Monaghan, 33, who was named captain this season, made his debut in 2011 and has scored 141 tries in 143 appearances.

O'Brien, 23, came through Warrington's academy system and made his first-team debut in 2011, making 62 appearances with 19 tries, 78 goals and three drop goals to his name.

Former New Zealand and Samoa international Asotasi, 33, made 57 appearances after joining from South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2014.
