Newcastle Thunder: Michael Mantelli appointed head coach

League One side Newcastle Thunder have appointed former Italy assistant Michael Mantelli as head coach on a two-year deal from next season.
The Australian had spent eight years coaching at National Rugby League club Canberra Raiders.
He replaces Stanley Gene, who spent two years at Kingston Park.
"The club is one that has shown some promise and there is definitely something to build on and work on with the right mix of players," he said.
