Trinity scored through Ben Jones-Bishop and Bill Tupou but trailed 30-10.

McGillvary's third and Ukuma Ta'ai's try made it 40-10 but Pauli Pauli, Justin Horo and Tom Johnstone scored to restore some pride for the visitors.

Defeat for Catalans and Hull FC meant Huddersfield moved up three places to end fifth in the table after 23 games, while Wakefield are seventh going into the Super 8s.

Wakefield had Matty Ashurst sin-binned for dissent after 10 minutes and conceded 12 points while he was off the pitch, having been level at 6-6 at the time.
