46. razor36 "rowley to widnes"NO! Rowley to job centre, please. Toronto need to replace him more than they need to replace any of the players. The only players they need rid of are any so Rowleyised that they're incapable of fitting into the new approach of a new coach. The way Toronto have played -and often not played- has been a disgrace to the game..
@128 "Gateshead play at falcons" ... Its Newcastle Thunder not Gateshead any longer. 4 regional union clubs in Australia playing at the top level 2 in NSW 1 in state of Victoria and 1 in Queensland they don't get 80,000 for Reds vs Waratahs which NRL get for Origin
@133 UnbiassedPundit: Are you real? You're probably an arrogant, opinionated southerner. Personally, if Scotland has another independence vote, I'd be all for drawing a boundary line across England around Chester and throwing our lot in with them.
@146 Hey Mikey. Glad to see you're so open minded and respect other folks' opinions...and dont resort to cheap gibes...Two penalties to one is not a great spectacle. And Sky messed up the clock so there was little suspense going into the last minutes. Also commentary cited the 8,400 attendance record, and that yesterday's attendance was not going to break that record so i dont think 95%...
148. Posted by amelvin on2 hours agoLamport stadium was over 95% full - well done to Toronto for filling a stadium with fans mostly new to the game. Lots for SL clubs to learn. ______________If you say it was 95% full I wouldn't like you to pour me a pint. ;-)
@150. juggernautWhat's your problem? I'm not criticising union. I live in Devon & support the Chiefs. I was just picking up on Mancunia's comment: "RL is dying...look at average crowds...without Sky’s millions it would be in a dire state". RL is not dying. I am Australian & also an RL fan & was pointing out that, when it comes to attendances, RL is doing well there & ok in the UK.
@146 Hey mikey take that massive chip of your shoulders ZZZZZZZZZZZZZXXX
@147 Arty Mancunias comment is his own opinion, not union against league yet you denigrate union right away,Leinster v Munster pulled 50k,Leicester tigers av 22k,Gloucester 15k,bath 14k,French top 14 clermont 18k av,Toulon 15k etc I could go on,to say unions club games crowds are poor is just rubbish
Rugby League unlike Football/Cricket/Rugby U is constant action and rarely interrupted by the referee who decisions rarely ruin a gameRarely is there a boring game, comebacks are frequent and the weather only adds to the spectaclein some ways this mitigates against some potential viewers - the sozzled might not copeunfortunately it doesn't help with TV ad breaksTime for timeouts
Lamport stadium was over 95% full - well done to Toronto for filling a stadium with fans mostly new to the game. Lots for SL clubs to learn. I like the ambition of having Toronto, Toulouse, Catalans & London in the top flight. But the game is caught in a catch 22, no exposure = no money = no growth = no exposure. If Toronto had been an RU side the press coverage would have been huge.
@128.juggernaut - "why have a go at Union, small crowds are u having a laugh"I was responding to Mancunia comment "RL is dying...look at average crowds". I support Exeter RU av crowd 11k. Leeds Rhinos av crowd 15k. Oz population is a third of UK yet av NRL crowds are around 16k. Australia's national professional RU competition attracts 4k for the final! What point was Mancunia making?
Was a war of attrition, definitely a defensive minded game, hence the low score, but still I'd rather watch 80 minutes of that than watch 80 minutes of Yawnion. Could put a glass eye to sleep, that feeble attempt at a sport could. Well done Broncos, you wanted it more. Think Toronto felt like they just needed to turn up to win.
this looks like rugby, let me guess, the all blacks won??
@143 Interesting to note the SL wanted teams to merge to form "super teams" eg one Hull side, a Cheshire side of Widnes and Warrington etc but the history and rivalry prevented it happening. Didn't realise till the Cup final that Catalan were formed from local rivals. From your list Workington town are the surprise to me. Wish we could get a "Super Cumbrian" team in SL.
Always interesting to post the founding Super League clubs, of whom only 5 were in Super League this year. Bradford Bulls Castleford Tigers Halifax Leeds Rhinos London Broncos Oldham Bears Paris Saint-Germain Sheffield Eagles St. Helens Warrington Wolves Wigan Warriors Workington Town
Why the hell do the BBC bother to report on a game that they clearly didn't watch ???'Their loose forward Bob Beswick was also carried off on a stretcher after taking a blow to the head attempting to make a tackle just before the hooter sounded.'I was actually watching the game and to his credit Bob Beswick actually walked off the field - albeit he would have had a headache from hell
I hope longer term, the SL hierarchy will use the persistence and application of Catalans, Broncos, Wolfpack, and Olympique to drive Northern Hemisphere RL into more public exposure and profit and to encourage the heartlands youngsters to retain believe in the sport. Cracking Championship season. Please BBC - double up Tanya Arnold's programme to show a Championship only RL show every week.
