72 - Consider your self shot down Kelly.Enjoy the game on Sunday kid.Or in your case don't watch it but wait for the post game HYS to open so you can spout your anti RL and UK poison.
Before I ridiculously get shot down again, forget my own view and look at the attendances, look at the participation numbers. Phil Caplan states RL has never had a lower profile. RU is having a similar issue with participation dropping due to increase in bulk/physicality (article six weeks ago in the Guardian covers this). Open play is eye catching, creates stars, and is enticing to play.
@67 I’ve seen old footage and the game definitely looked much better then. Phil Caplan talks about the women’s game today reminding him what the men’s game used to look like, more open, far less attritional, more skill. Watched a Garry Schofield game where he scored in a Cup game he won at Elland road and it was a better spectacle. It’s too brutish, rapid repetitive straight up hits, too basic.
Ref 56Dear Ring of...….LFC IS 12 MILES AWAY FROM ST HELENS YOU PRATT. Being a Wollyback I know that.Just a shame Everton were not invited too as the stadium choice seems to be a bit biased.Come on you Saints !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They even moved it to BBC2 Shame on you BC - how are we ever going to promote our sport with rubbish coverage =like this ?
@65 the initial reason was due to football being played at Everton on the Saturday at 3pm and the usual health and safety/police stuff around that. But to be fair the tradional day for RL is a Sunday so good for England to follow suit and easy capture a bigger audience
Kerry, potentially. Think for the last few years RL has been like the Doll's - having a personality crisis. The people at the RFL and SL need to figure out what they want the game to look like and who they want it to appeal to, and then market it! Got faith in Rob Elstone, not so much in Ralph Dimmer.
I leave HYS for a few hours & again its deteriorated into rants and raves by the usual suspects. Dont get sucked in-it only encourages them. Just IGNORE them it hacks THEM off more!Good luck to England-their new skipper, their coaches & to Liverpool. Hope the ref has a good game too. Refs can influence results as we know so I hope hes explained his expectations to both sides!GAME ON!
Nice to see they have moved the match to sunday to make way for yawnion.nice, notnot that I am inverted snoball wrong
@62 it’s not “crazy”...money talks. Spurs need every penny they get from other avenues to finance the stadium build (costs just spiralled by another 200 mill). Even United with over half a billion yearly revenue lend RL their stadium for the Grand Final...another big slice of income. Anfield, Bon Jovi concert being advertised for next year.@63 London is cosmopolitan, RL is too “Northern”.
Kerry - back to the old product vs marketing debate! Does a packed Wembley for the NFL come down to good product or good marketing? My opinion is poor product, brilliant marketing. The likes of which the RFL could learn from!
It's crazy kerry! I can't believe that the prem are going to allow fixtures at white hart lane to be scheduled to accommodate the NFL games. Should be the football what takes priority - got a free weekend at the lane? Great let's schedule the jags to play the colts then! Or something like that.
@57 haven’t got a scooby do who should be scrum half. Scrum half is same as RU right? (even though there’s no scrum in RL). The wee Leeds fella rob burrow, he was a great wee player. It’s creative players like him that would see RL attract more people to play. Unfortunately too much emphasis is on the big hallions like Earl Crabtree running straight into the opposition. Too basic, not appealing.
