Newcastle Falcons prop Jonny Golding has admitted he relishes the intimidating atmosphere at Gloucester's Kingsholm ground.

Falcons have not won a Premiership game at the stadium since their 29-27 victory back in April 1998.

"It's a good ground to go and get yourself geed up with the fans," Golding told BBC Newcastle.

"They give you a bit of grief which actually gets you going, so I quite enjoy playing there."

Golding added: "They have a bit of banter, but you have to understand that it's what the Shed is about.

"It's a pretty special place, it's part of the game with a bit of hostility, and it's good.

"It's all part and parcel of going down to Gloucester."

Falcons' trip to the West Country comes on the back of last weekend's 24-9 defeat by Saracens.

Golding and his team-mates require a good run of form in their bid to avoid relegation from the Premiership, with Leeds just six points behind having played an extra game.

"We're going down there to get some points and that's our aim," Golding continued.

"Every game now counts for us, we've got six games left and need to get as many points as we can.

"There's no write-offs, we believe in ourselves as a team, like last weekend, we were close to Saracens within the last 20 minutes and we pushed them but they happened to get away with it at the end.

"So we're going to Gloucester and push them, and maybe it will go our way this time, you never know."

Falcons were 12-6 Premiership winners against Gloucester in November, but lost the LV= Cup final to Bryan Redpath's Cherry and Whites earlier this month.
