Gloucester strength and conditioning coach Barney Allen says they are focusing their pre-season training regime on the scrum-halves' fitness.
The side have already returned to training ahead of next season's Premiership campaign.
"Bryan [Redpath, head coach] wants the scrum-halves to be super fit this year so they can keep our game going and going," Allen told BBC Gloucestershire.
"The programme that we've got in place will stand us in good stead."
Last year, Allen revealed they were going to change the look of the side by producing a "leaner" squad.
"We've gone for much the same blueprint this year," he said, "We've tweaked the programme slightly. We've learnt from a few mistakes to hopefully benefit the players going forward for the rest of the year."
"Nick in particular has done a lot of work away from here," he said.
"He had a bit of a shoulder problem at the back end of last year, he's sorted that out and he's done all his work on top of that and he's in great shape."
"It's the same with Dan Murphy. He's worked really hard in his off-season and has come in fit and ready to go with us at Gloucester."
