Fly-half Stephen Jones will miss Wales' first week-long pre-World Cup training camp in Poland because of the impending birth of his first child.

Jones is one of five of coach Warren Gatland's preliminary squad to be absent from Spala, starting on 2 July.

Richard Hibbard (shoulder) and Morgan Stoddart (thigh), join unavailable Dwayne Peel and Gareth Delve in also missing the event.

Leigh Halfpenny, Adam Jones, Gethin Jenkins and Shane Williams will attend.

Wings Halfpenny (ankle) and Williams (knee) join props Adam Jones (elbow) and Jenkins (calf) in travelling with the squad, although they are at differing stages of recovery from their injuries.

Gavin Henson is also heading for the training camp having recently been filming a reality television show.

Peel's club, Sale, have blocked the scrum-half from joining Wales summer training, amid an on-going dispute with the Welsh Rugby Union about availabilty outside designated International Rugby Board time periods.

However, his new clubmate Andy Powell is with Wales as his contract with the Aviva Premiership side begins after the World Cup.

Delve is still in Australia following his Super 15 debut season for Melbourne Rebels.

Gatland said: "We have been impressed with the way the squad have responded to the physical pressures we have put them under in the last two weeks.

"To a man they have all reached the standard to go to Poland and so everyone is still pretty much in the mix, but this is where the real hard work begins."

In August Wales twice face England, then take on Argentina.

Wales have also announced an open training day at the Millennium Stadium for Tuesday, 2 August.

Gatland said: "It's is a way of letting a few people in to see us who wouldn't otherwise be able to and reaching out to the nation to get behind the side."
