Morgan Stoddart has been called into Wales' 42-man squad in place of the injured Jason Tovey at their summer training camp in Poland.
Wales are currently in Spala preparing for the summer internationals ahead of 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
Tovey will return home to Wales for tests to a nerve problem in his back.
"He will undergo further investigation and a scan back in Wales," said Prav Mathema, the WRU medical manager.
"And we will know more once we have seen the results."
Scarlets wing Stoddart missed out on initial selection for the trip due to a thigh strain.
"Morgan is doing well and is now up and running again, so his rehabilitation can be improved with use of the cryotherapy chambers here in Poland," added Mathema.
"It therefore makes sense for him to fly out in place of Jason."
Stoddart has won seven caps for Wales and scored a try on his debut against World Champions South Africa in 2007.
