Forward Bryn Jenkins is hoping to improve his skills by working with Cambridge coach Bob Crooks.
The 24-year-old has made the move from Launceston following their relegation from National One.
Jenkins told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Bob is close friends with the guys at Launceston and got hold of me through them.
"I'm just keen to improve my rugby and Bob persuaded me that Cambridge is the place to be."
Jenkins started his career with Plymouth Albion before moving to Launceston in 2006.
He expects Cambridge to be amongst the promotion contenders and is planning to play a big part.
"I'll hopefully be calling the line-outs and running the show in that way," he said.
"My game is quite open and I like running rugby in the style that Cambridge play".
