Newcastle Falcons have handed Josh Beaumont, son of former England captain Bill, a professional contract at Kingston Park.
The 19-year-old second-row will combine studying geography at Durham University with playing and training duties with Falcons and hometown club Fylde RFC.
"He is a powerful athlete," assistant academy coach Mark Laycock said.
"He is intelligent in the lineout and confrontational in the contact area, he is very adept with ball in hand."
Beaumont has been capped by the Barbarians and England Counties, and won the British Universities Collegiate Sport championship with Durham last season.
