Plymouth Albion chairman of rugby Graham Dawe has given ex-Munster youth player Paul Rowley a trial at the club.
The scrum-half has been attending pre-season training at the Brickfields, and Dawe told BBC Radio Devon he hopes to increase competition in the squad.
"We just want to see how he develops as a player," Dawe said.
"We want to see if he can add something to our squad and put some pressure on Ruairi Cushion and Dale Farnham," added the Brickfields chief.
But Dawe said Rowley's time at the Brickfields has been hampered by injury on his first day.
"He's been out for nearly 10 days. It's a long road back for him but hopefully by the end of the week he'll be back running," he added.
