Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney believes this season's squad is the strongest he has ever had.
The Green and Whites, who were knocked out in last season's play-off group stages, get their Championship campaign underway this weekend.
Delaney told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We've got better depth now than I think we've had at any point in time.
"We are going to have to use that squad to get us to the dancefloor, that is the play-offs."
Nottingham host Bedford at Meadow Lane on Sunday (1500 BST) and will be looking for an opening day change of fortunes.
"One thing we want to do is win the first game of the season, which we haven't done for four years," added Delaney.
"The motivation is to get out there on Sunday and see how good we can be. We are very excited about that."
