Rugby World Cup 2011: Georgia 25-9 Romania

Gorgodze gave Georgia their second-ever victory at a World Cup

Mamuka Gorgodze scored the only try as Georgia overcame Eastern European rivals Romania at the Rugby World Cup.

Open-side flanker Gorgodze crossed on 56 minutes as fly-half Merab Kvirikashvili kicked 17 points and Malkhaz Urjukashvili three more.

Romania's Marin Dumbrava slotted two penalties and Florin Vlaicu one.

The result sees Georgia move up to four points with one game remaining, while Romania are bottom of Group B having lost all four of their matches.

"The two teams know each other so well they almost forgot to play," said Georgia coach Richard Dixon.

"Full marks to Romania for their participation but someone had to lose and fortunately it wasn't us.

"We let it develop into a local derby bun fight at times but it was good to get the win. We look forward to a strong display against Argentina on Sunday."

Georgia's only previous World Cup victory was a 30-0 win against Namibia at the 2007 tournament in France.

This is only the second time in Romania's seven World Cup appearances that they have failed to win a match.

"It's bad because we lost," said Romania captain Marius Tincu. "We worked very hard for this game but we didn't win.

"That is rugby, that is the game. The best team won."
