Former Wales hooker Garin Jenkins has joined the Scarlets coaching staff on a short-term, part-time basis.

Scartlets head coach Nigel Davies has recruited the 58-times capped ex-Swansea captain to mentor players and work on the region's scrum.

Davies said: "It's great to have someone of Garin's experience adding some specific support to this group of young players.

"The set-piece is so important at the top level of the game."

Regular Scarlets forwards coach Robin McBryde is part of Wales Warren Gatland's back-room staff at the World Cup.

Davies admits they have been exposed up front at time in Europe and wants to ensure they are prepared for what lies ahead during the season.

"We'll do whatever we can to strengthen that area," said Davies.

Since retiring as a player, Jenkins has been a regular pundit on BBC Radio Wales and worked for the Ospreys Academy and coached at Aberavon and with Wales Under 20.
