Bristol sign up New Zealand fly-half Matty James

James was released by Sale in May, along with 21 other players

Bristol have signed former Sale fly-half Matty James.

The 25-year-old New Zealander spent last season with Sharks but was released by the Premiership club in May after making just four appearances.

Head coach Liam Middleton said: "I'm pleased to add Matty to our squad - he is well suited to the style of rugby that we are playing this season.

"Matty is a quick and powerful threat, has a solid kicking game and can break the gain line."

James will go straight into the British and Irish Cup squad to face Moseley on Wednesday.
