England flanker Tom Croft says it is "disgusting" that people are questioning Martin Johnson's future as manager of the team.
Johnson's contract runs until 31 December 2011 and he is the subject of a Rugby Football Union review.
England's 2003 World Cup-winning captain has until Monday to decide whether or not to reapply for his job.
"The fact people are questioning Jonno being manager is pretty disgusting," Croft told BBC Radio Leicester.
Leicester blind-side Croft, 25, has been a regular fixture in Johnson's England sides and started four matches in the World Cup.
He added: "I think he [Johnson] is the ideal man for the job. I don't think any other team in the world has such a prominent figurehead. Hopefully he will decide to stick with the job."
Johnson took over as manager of England in November 2008 - and his team have won 21 of his 40 Tests in charge.
They endured a hugely disappointing World Cup, losing 19-12 to France in the quarter-finals, and being dogged by off-field controversies.
