Ryan Lamb is learning well - Saints coach Paul Grayson

Northampton Saints assistant head coach Paul Grayson has praised fly-half Ryan Lamb for the speed with which he has adapted to his new side.

Lamb joined the Saints in the summer from London Irish.

Grayson told BBC Radio Northampton: "Fly-half is a difficult position but Ryan is training well and learning from [team-mate] Stephen Myler.

"Both Ryan and Stephen can control the team and they're kicking their goals so it's good competition."

He added: "I think Ryan is a more consistent kicker than Shane Geraghty [who left the club for Brive in the summer]."

Saints have climbed up to ninth in the Premiership after an indifferent opening this season but Lamb has enjoyed the start to his new life at Franklin's Gardens.

"The boys have been great and it's good to get out on the pitch and just get some gametime," Lamb said.

"It takes a while to get used to patterns of play but we've built up some momentum recently which hopefully we can carry on."

The ex-Gloucester stand-off is relishing working alongside former England number 10 Grayson, who is also the Saints' all-time top points scorer.

"Paul has been fantastic with me, he's got a lot of time for everyone. It's great to get a rugby education from a man who has been there and done it all.

"He was really known as a goal kicker so hopefully that's an area he can help me improve on," the 25-year-old concluded.
