Will James has signed a one-year contract extension at Gloucester to keep him at Kingsholm until 2013.
James has spent five seasons with the Premiership side and had a year left to run on his current deal.
The 35-year-old lock told BBC Gloucestershire: "It is good for me to get it done early.
"It will allow me to concentrate on playing rugby rather than worrying about the end of my year so I'm happy with that."
He continued: "I'm still pretty fit, I enjoy training and I'll keep playing until my mind or my body says enough's enough and until I'm not good enough anymore.
"It's good for me to get another year from the club and we'll see what happens after that."
James left Cornish Pirates for Gloucester in the 2006-07 season and has gone on to make 106 appearances for the Cherry and Whites.
