Matt Evans aims to make Cornish Pirates impact
New Cornish Pirates singing Matt Evans says he is hoping to make an impact at the Mennaye.
Canadian World Cup full-back Evans joined up with his team-mates for the first time this week after returning from the Pan-American Games.
"I'm very grateful that Pirates looked to bring me in and I hope I can make an impact," he told BBC Radio Cornwall
Evans was brought in after Wes Davies was ruled out for up to six months with a calf injury.
"I was struggling for an opportunity to come to a club over in the UK and it looked like I was going to do the sevens circuit with Canada," added the 23-year-old former Newport Gwent Dragons player.
"But in these unfortunate circumstances I wish Wes the best of luck recovering and nobody ever wants to take someone's spot due to injury."
Pirates coach Ian Davis added: "Matt has performed well against us previously for Newport in the British and Irish Cup.
"We spoke about him over the summer about joining us, but with the World Cup and unavailability it wasn't the time to sign him.
"But we kept tabs on him and when Wes got injured we phoned Matt and he was happy to come along.
"What we hope he'll bring is that experience to the team and give us that edge to the backs."
