London Irish centre Steve Shingler has been given a four-week ban following his sending off against Cardiff Blues in Friday's Heineken Cup clash.

The Welshman was sent off for a 'spear' tackle on Blues centre Dafydd Hewitt.

Shingler was initially given an eight-week ban but it was reduced to four weeks because of his good disciplinary record. He has the right to appeal.

The 20-year-old back becomes the fourth London Irish player to receive a suspension this season.

Centre Shontayne Hape and full-back Delon Armitage are currently serving bans while number eight Chris Hala'ufia was also punished earlier in the season.

If Shingler does not appeal against his ban he will next be available to play from 19 December.
