England Women defeat world champions New Zealand to take series win

England Women completed a series win over world champions New Zealand at Esher, despite making 11 changes to their line-up.

Georgina Roberts powered over on the right wing to set England on their way to a second victory in three days.

In the second half, Katy McLean broke through a gap to score England's second try and Vicky Fleetwood added a third when she charged over after a one-two.

"I am proud of the players," said coach Gary Street. "They showed character."

Skipper McLean completed a fine performance by adding two penalties, but it was the performance of England's youngsters that caught the eye.

"The back row were superb," added Street. "With three young players starting, they were outstanding.

"Alexandra Matthews in particular was a revelation playing as an 18-year-old against the world champions."

The final game of the three-match series will be held at Esher on 3 December, 1400 GMT.
