Jonny Wilkinson's goal-kicking mentor Dave Alred has left the England coaching set-up.

Alred, who also coached Wilkinson at Newcastle, has not had his contract renewed by the Rugby Football Union.

Interim manager Stuart Lancaster is likely to call on Jon Callard to replace Alred once he has completed his duties with the England Saxons.

Alred follows Martin Johnson, Brian Smith, John Wells and Mike Ford in leaving the England set-up.

Former Bath and England player Callard and Simon Hardy are due to lead the Saxons for their next two games, but Lancaster is understood to be keen to tap into kicking and lineout expertise for next year's Six Nations championship.

Lancaster, Graham Rowntree and Andy Farrell complete England's temporary coaching team.

"The World Cup was enormously disappointing but we shouldn't forget that England won 10 out of 13 games this year and a Six Nations title," said Lancaster.

"We have a promising group of players to go forward with and the challenge for Graham, Andy and myself is to get the best out of them."

Alred, who was working with England on a consultancy basis, is currently assisting golfer Luke Donald, who recently became the first player to win both the American and European money titles in the same season.
