The two sides exchanged two penalties apiece before tries from Tom Brady and David Seymour put Sale in control.
Brady then went over for his second try early in the second half before Cillian Willis added a fourth to make it 34-9.
Agen hit back as Jamie Robinson reduced the arrears and Opeti Fonua closed the gap to 13 points, before Scott Mathie added a fifth try for Sale late on.
