Seeing a lot of fishy choices, but everyone has their opinion and has obviously chosen their players for a certain reason.a 30 man squad of my choice:Jones,Jenkins,Rees, James, Ford, Gray, Denton, Lydiate, Warburton (c), Phillips, Care, Robshaw, Croft, North, Cuthbert, Davies, Roberts, Sexton, BOD, Bowe, Best, Lamont, Blair, Kearney, Halfpenny, O'Connell, Heaslip , Tuilagi, Roberts, BarrittIMO
Backrow competition is going to be immense especially at 6 between lydiate and ferris. However I think the backs will be predominately welsh. Maybe: 9 Phillips, 10 Sexton, 11 visser/north, 12 Roberts (if fit), 13 Jon Davies/tuilangi/BOD, 14 cuthbert/Ashton, 15 Kearney (on form). Going to be some tough decisions.
#28. @druid1968 : No idea where you got your stats from.......25/06/05 - England : Starting 8 out of 15, Bench 5 out of 702/06/05 - England : Starting 6 out of 15, Bench 3 out of 709/07/05 - England : Starting 5 out of 15, Bench 3 out of 7
Surely Woodward should have suggested that the most important person that Gats needs to get on board is a spin doctor. I remember the blinding success that a certain Mr A Campbell was during Woodward's highly renowned tenure as Lions coach. This person could then "get the Welsh team to really want him to do the Lions". Why would anyone in the Welsh team NOT want Gats to coach the Lions ??
Looking forward to the Lions next year... Not a great deal of people have mentioned Jonathan Davies at 13... Superb centre, if O'Driscoll is a little under par this man has to start. His offence and defence are excellent. Tuilangi on the bench for impact... Back row is the toughest area... Form will change by the time we get there next year..
I agree with the thrust of Clive Woodward's comments and, those obviously blinkered apart, it will be interesting to see how we feel after the next six-nations. But please keep the No 9 shirt away from Phillips and like him or not Ashton is a class act who brings something to the game way beyond normal wing play.
The backrow is certainly the most competitive position, and especially the BS. Remember Ireland and England are picking two BS flankers at OS just accomodate them.I don't evny Gatland having to pick 2 (or will he take 3?) blind sides from:SOB, Ferris, Croft, Haskell, Robshaw, Wood, Lydiate, Jones, Strokosch, BrownI'd take Ferris and Lydiate; with SOB as extra cover for whole back row
At 65 .Welshwairriors your entitled to your opinion, although i think sexton should start, unless farral can improve his attacking game. And defently not have BOD he's to old.
Quite shocked so many would pick Phillips, he's had two howling performances in Aus and a major improvement in his form would be needed from him if he's to stand a chance of being picked ahead of some of the other prominent 9's, as well as ones like Webb who could flourish in the next year or so
some have picked priestland hes having a terrible season in my opinion this would be my team 1 jenkins2 best3jones4gray5alun wyn 6lydiate7 warbuton/ obrien 8 morgan9murray10 farell11 north 12 roberts 13BOD14 cuthbert15 kearney16hartley17healey18paul o conell19ferris20phillips21sexton 22tuilagi23halfpennynotmanyenglish cause i personally think they are the most selfish team
On present form I'd go with...1 - Jenkins / Corbisero2 - Best / Ford3 - Jones / Cole4 - POC / Alyn WJ5 - Gray / Lawes6 - Lydiate / Croft7 - Warburton / Armitage8 - Denton / Morgan9 - Dickson / Care (Phillips cant handle the pace australia will bring)10- Priestland/ Flood11- North / Visser12- Roberts / Barrit13- BOD / Davies14- Cuthburt / Manu Tuilagi15 - Half Penny / Kearny / Foden
The debate about the back row will continue right up until the squad annoucement as it's such a competitive area. Given the way the Australians play and the abundance of top-class back row players it's likely Gats will take 2 specialists in each role and 2 utility back rowers who can come off the bench. For that reason, all the positions are up for grabs and will be until late April.
@44.what honestly have you seen in Faletau's performances that warrant your statement? tbh i have seen him do nothing. Denton was voted the best 8 in 6N by pundits and won motm against England. he is so athletic and is a great ball carrier. fair enough Ben Morgan was good in the last couple especially against France. Denton also helped Edinburgh to HC semi! Heaslip done nothing whatsoever.
