#2.Dave Morgan - absolutely right Dave! Local talent has to play and be tested in order to develop - Welsh rugby in general should analyse the root causes of Scarlets player development success and try to 'brand' it. The regional set up is only now starting to pay off - Wales has to stick with and build it to really pay off on the international stage.
This is potentially th ebest Scarlets team for about10 years, as long as the the front 5 hold their own the team is very capable of doing well in the RABO this season..Europe against the power-teams is a different ball-game, perhaps another 2 years before we can challenge, provided the squadstays together and develops..will be interesting how the remaining o'seas signings blend in
I think the Scarlets are a very good side and I think it could be a long night for the Ospreys on Friday.
@maff1980Rhodri Jones, Ken Owens, Samson Lee, Kirby Myhill, Aaron Shingler, Rob McCusker, Josh Turnbull.4 of them will start on Friday against the O's, one on bench, one injured who would otherwise start. Not bad!
They need to start developing forwards now!
I don't think anyone should underestimate the influence of Gareth Jenkins in the transformation of the Scarlets. It was he who set up the region on a proper footing way back in 2003 & we are reaping the rewards now. But we must be careful as the other 3 regions are slowly catching us. Can only be good for Welsh rugby as a whole though
Virtual green to flaming ignora...:-)
#flaming ignoramain reason why he was overlooked by wales was probably because he had already had over 60 caps for ireland
Simon Easterby. What a player, now a top class coach. Such a tragedy that he was repeatedly overlooked by Wales.
The reporter who produced this article, has highlited the abundance of young talent, coming through the regional system. There is however one player missing from his list. The Scarlets Aeron Shingler. He is potentially the best young utility, second/back row player in Wales. , If he can remain injury free, I'm sure he is due for many more Welsh caps.
Strange that a lot of the young players at 3 of the 4 regions were released by the Ospreys at some point over the last 4 years. Poor management! However the Scarelts have stepped up increadibly well over the last 3 years and really could go places this season, especially now they have added some beef to their pack
The Scarlets have brought through some terrific players, probably not by choice but it has worked out well for them. It's pretty simple, young guys need to play.As for Easterby, so far so good but they've only won 3 games on the bounce. Let's have a look how they get on in Europe and the rest of the season before declaring him Lord and Protector of Llanelli.
With Sir Simon Easterby at the helm, the Scarlet's have a General that will be the envy of the Rugby playing world.A true gentleman, an athlete, a scholar and a Yorkshireman.Expect to see the Scarlet's playing a lead role in European rugby for the foreseeable future.Easterby is of dynastic heritage to the world of sport and The Scarlet's are the current beneficiaries of these noble genes.
