Well played to England - lots of intensity, physicality and commitment. Lets see if they can build on it or if it is just a flash in the pan but I'd pay to see that same level of intensity from Wales. Sadly all we delivered once we nudged in front was more of the same slow, aimless kicking game. Brainless ....
Wales........verdict, not good enough, never have been, and now probably never will be.
I haven't seen anything this summer \ autumn that separates England, Wales and Ireland. All poor. The only victories over SH are Fiji (England) and Arg (Ireland). Personally, think the Arg result flatters Ireland as Arg were at the end of a long season but full marks to Ire that day - they did play well. France have looked good against Oz and Arg as well. Definitely (IMO) favourites for the 6N.
@92 We didn't have a 1 man disadvantage against France; we had an idiot who get himself sent off. After 6 warnings that a tip tackle is a red card, he got what he deserved and cost us a final. Yes we were fortunate in Dublin because the same idiot went off at half-time when we were 5 points down. With Tipuric we were 12 points better in the second half.
The last 6 Nations was poor, but Wales were the better team of the lot. Wales were extremely fortunate to win the game in Dublin, but ground out the rest and deserved it. In the WC Wales battered a cocky Ireland, and played well against France despite the 1 man disadvantage. I think Wales will win today. I do however, think Ireland, France, & England will finish above in 6N, in that order.
"We're seeing the usual boom and bust of Welsh rugby"Where do you see this? We lost to SA, France and Oz at the WC and only beat Ireland and a tired Samoa of the Top 10 nations. We won a very poor 6N again beating Ireland and turning the tables on France. Since then we have lost to Oz x3 and a narrow defeat to Samoa who we only just beat at the WC. All home nations are sadly poor.
This far ahead of the RWC the only seedings that matter are 1-4. The rest form a lottery. We're seeing the usual boom and bust of Welsh rugby, for the 6N it's all about the first game - if Wales lose it they'll scrap to avoid the spoon, if they win it they're on a roll.
"Apart from Warburton and A Jones Wales are poor throughout the team"But still good enough to beat England at Twickenham and run Australia closer away than England could do at Twickenham. Agree that we didn't beat a top team - only Ireland who we've also beaten since. And agree that Wales are poor. Still best of the home nations on recent form though.
71. ChubbyPandas Where you getting £50 from???Mine sweeping again at the bar? Tsssssk Tsskkk
Wales peaked in the WC, and they still didn't beat a top team. I live in Wales myself and I used to want to see you guys do well, but the arrogance has overshadowed your recent successes and people don't like it. You say England are arrogant, but take a look in the mirror! Apart from Warburton and A Jones Wales are poor throughout the team. You have a small pool so it's understandable. Whitewash!
Number 1 - Pride is the only thing they need to play for. Losing isn't the problem. Losing in a headless \ gutless \ thoughtless manner is the issue. Rankings really don't matter. If a team can't get out of its group in the WC (meaning they've already lost 2 matches) then they simply aren't good enough to win the WC.
1. Pride2. World ranking3. It's the national game4. Aussies are arrogant enough5. So we dont have to listen to Jiffy saying "What we got to do"
The rankings examples are a bit pointless. Even if they win they could still end up in a group with New Zealand and Samoa!
"England have been closer to beating their opponents. "Not the case - England got beaten by more points by Australia at home than Wales did away. Ireland lost by 60 points, 22 points and 3 point to NZ. Wales lost by 23. Ireland beating Arg, and beating them well, stands out. I don't think anything has "gone wrong" with Wales. It is the home nations as a whole who are desperately poor.
@79 We must be watching different rugby if you feel Wales are the best of the home nations. England have been closer to beating their opponents. I would argue that Wales would've struggled to beat NZ even if NZ had been rightfully reduced to 14 men for the entire game. Dont know what has gone wrong with Wales since winning the GS.
The only thing that Wales can beat Australia in involves wellies and sheep
