England should all but seal the 6Ns title @ Twickenham against Italy on 10/3. No offence to Scotland, who sealed the deal against an injury ravaged yet dominant Irish side, but the Welsh are slowly putting their injury troubles behind them to grind out wins and should also win @ Murrayfield. Should be a cracker when we go to Cardiff on 16/3, with 2 evenly matched sides over the last decade.
Picamole should have been man of the match with Dan Cole next in line.
Ashton needs some bench or club time to show that he's not untouchable. Dayglo has rightly be pointing this out the last few weeks yet despite consistently missing tackles, his name remains on the team sheet. Others deserve a chance and he needs to know he haste improve not just bask on past glories...
By galvansie I meant Italy, I think england are pretty much galvansied as they can get! No hate mail please ;)
I agree, Scotland were fortunate, but deserved the win (generally the scoreboard doesn't lie). I think a more-in-form Wales (please kick on Wales!) will beat Scotland up front. England to demolish Italy (if it rains, stick it up your jumper), but hopefully they will galvansie for the final round as they continue to improve. Ireland to beat France and we can all giggle at les boo-hoos.
@873Ok, like I said I'd need to see it again, but would have thought that if he has elbowed or attempted to elbow a player then that would most definitely constitute possibly injuring a player. An elbow is dangerous and can cause significant facial injury, I don't think it defo shouldn't be overlooked.IMO the French player should also be punished if he's blatantly dived and exaggerated.
@872Doubtful! You only get cited if you could possibly injure a player (ie My Big Fat Cian Healy Wedding). Faz's attempted elbow was so girly, I'm sure the embarrasment is enough of a punishment.Have to appreciate the Ronaldo-esque dive from the Frenchman tho....
Really enjoyed the game, would have been far closer and poss a French win had they not made those changes.Quick question - during the game they highlighted Farrell doing something off the ball. I thought it looked like he elbowed or tried to a French player, but haven't seen it since, so am not sure.If he did, will be cited for assault/attempted off the ball assault?
BagmanGood summation.Going to be a cracking match in Cardiff as England will thump Italy and I expect Wales to do what Ireland should have done and convincingly beat Scotland, listen to their whinging about the Ref.Dan Cole was carded for the same offence on saturday, its called consistency.
@869I'm afraid I have to agree with you. If Tualagi isn't on the pitch, we seem to lack pentration in the back line (Don't bother mentioning Twelvetrees, breaking the line against Scotland doesn't count!).Hopefully Care will get a shout against Italy and inject some pace into the backs.....
As a welshman, I enjoyed the game and it was a great eng /fra test match. Saint Andre shot himself in the foot taking 9+10 off. Silly decision. England looked good but not convincing. Saying that, they are 100% and will probably put 40 pts on Italy and beat us in Cardiff if form like this continues.I'd be happy if I was english, but a little concerned with back line creativity. Another solid game
The Welsh should be very worried about Scotland imo
Corbisiero and morgan will be fit for the italy game and available for selection, bring on the arrogant welsh at the millenium , their whole back line is full of second rows , england will chip and turn them , constantly , the big welsh back are all slow to accelerate so they will block and trip , give away penalties and farrell will boot them to death. No less than they deserve.
Overall the England team since the world cup has improved hugely, they play for each other and have a desire to win. But this last game people are right there are hints of the ill disciplne from the Johnson reign. I think they are young and the pressure now of being the leaders are showing. This is somehting that the management need to get handle on now or it will take the team over.
Let's hope Morgan is fit in 2 weeks time. Ashton should be dropped, he has stopped joining in the line and is no longer ferritting out the ball and space. I would only change the half backs if I have to. One bad game and one petulant performance does not necessarily require a change. You have no diea what set OF off. He has to learn to control it, he can't do that on the bench.
Poor performance by England! Our attitude and discipline resembled that of Johnson's reign, can't believe we managed to scrape a win... Good job France are rubbish!!!Good points - Manu's back, Robshaw solid again,Bad points - Faz acting like a spoilt football player (Toby Flood in for Italy test.) Ashton, why is he in the team?!?
@862 Not sure about too many section questions, the bench came on and made a difference with fresh legs...if the bench had started not convinced they would have been much more dynamic then the starting players against a fresh French 1st team....France rang the changes and went downhill rapidly.....Care got quicker go forward ball to work with. Its all good though! Ashtons a luxury.
A lot of questions raised about the England selection after this game. It was the worst performance of the tournament for them so far but I'd say the big questions areCare v Youngs - Game sped up when Care was onVunipola v Marler - Pack steadied with Vunipola36 v Barritt - tough shout both good playersAshton v someone else - Ashton was poor againMake up of the back row also in question
@858 Agree Ashton needs a good kick in the pants to get him going. Tackling is awful as well.Surely Christian Wade should be given a chance against Italy. I would move Brown to FB as well as he is wasted on the wing and I haven't seen much in attack from Goode.
