Nottingham's Sean Romans insists they must not show champions Newcastle too much respect in Friday's match.
Romans' side, second and heading for the Championship play-offs, are keen to finish the regular season in good form.
He said: "The Falcons earn a lot of our respect because of their performances and because they are a quality side.
"But fear is not a mindset you want. If you think of them that way, you start giving them liberties that you should give no side."
Nottingham have impressed this season but are 22 points behind Newcastle ahead of the Tyneside club's visit to Meadow Lane, with four matches left to play.
And scrum-half Romans warned: "We are not at a stage where we can sit back and rest on our laurels.
"We have to keep working because any good result that we get comes from hard work.
"To date this season we can be really happy with some of the stuff that we have done, but there is still so much to do.
"We have to earn our place in the top four and that is something we have to keep in the back of our minds every week."
