As an outsider looking in - just what has Henson achieved in what appears to be a career of never achieving what he could have? He had one outstanding test against a SH team and then appeared to rest on that for the next several years. Having watched a lot of 6 nations I doubt if he rarely appeared to be any more than a journeyman at test level.
@ 25. LandOfHopeAndGlory "As I have said countless times now I do not support Bath. I support Newcastle."Why would you say that, when you were at the rec last week shouting for Bath against Leicester? I know Gavin Henson is Welsh, but surely you will welcome him won't you? Henson will be good for Bath. :-)
Judge his rugby by all means - saying he's not a 'worthwhile human being' is pathetic though. On his rugby he actually achieved a lot (unlike Cipriani who he is sometimes compared too) so he didn't go to far 'wrong' there either. The point is that he might have achived 'legendary' status in rugby had he not opted for the reality TV route - but that's not 'wrong' just his choice.

I think a lot of the recent comments have been far too "pro-Henson". Why should we not judge him? He had the talent to be one of the legends of Welsh rugby and he threw it all away, he ended up never playing in a World Cup, and appearing in stupid reality TV shows. Henson is a perfect example of what can go wrong if your a sportsman and you don't have the right attitude
Henson had a good few years on sabbatical so he unlike other players that flogged themselves over those years - his body and mind has had a break. He's had a season now to wipe of the cobwebs hopefully we can start to see the best of him nt year.Personally, I'd love to see him back in the Welsh squad and set up but he'll have to be playing his best to in the 1st 15 now
its sad really what happend to henson..for me he was potentially the welsh version of o driscal...imagine him in the centre with the current crop playing well...that would really help wales to move up the tiers...people like J davis while competent is limited in talent compared with henson...
@155 you're missing lots actually, but to start you off. Twickenham 2008, 60 minute mark. England 19 and in the ascendency - Wales 3 and in total dejection. Outplayed in every department. Then Henson gets the ball and makes a 40 metre break. Suddenly Wales believe and go on to score 20 points in 13 minutes. Best ever example of how 1 person can lift a team. Brilliance.
Always pleasant to see people judging GH when (I doubt) they've even met him - 'a worthwhile human being' .... really! Like everyone he might have made mistakes along the way but he's credited with organising Wales' defence in 05 & 08, has x2 GS to his name (more than a number of other so called 'legends') & an excellent footballer
Am I missing something with Henson? I've never rated him as a player, talent or even a worthwhile human being. Why any club would waste their money on him is beyond me.
@153 I think Henson should tour with Wal to Japan. If he secures a 2 year contract at least at a top club like Bath and performs in Japan then hits the ground running next season for Bath then who knows where he'd end up. Wouldn't surprise me if he was back in the Welsh jersey with Roberts going to Fra. Welsh management seem less reluctant to pick players playing in Eng than Fra (Apart from Gill)
152- I wouldn't be so certain that he'll never play for Wales again. Sean Edwards is a massive fan of Henson and will have a big say about selection for Wales summer tour. I reckon Henson will make the tour and end up playing himself into a test.
Henson was a big loss to Welsh rugby. We could have with another world class centre, and fly half over the last couple of years. Shame he completely wasted his career. He has not got 5 more top flight years, not in the starting XV anyway. No point trying to turn his career round now, its practically over. And he'll never play for Wales again. WG gives chances to young players, not 31 year olds.
An amazing talent wasted. In rugby terms remembered for flashy boots, a fantastic kick and a tackle that destroyed the international career of Matthew Tait.
