Redruth coach Ashley Morcom calls for 'abrasive' attitude

Redruth v Chinnor

Redruth coach Ashley Morcom says his side need to adopt a more "abrasive" attitude on their travels if they are to improve their woeful away form.

The Reds are still seeking their first win on the road this season, having lost all nine of their away games.

"The most important thing is to go away from home and have a go," Morcom told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"We need to have the attitude that we're a little bit more abrasive and harder than we are at home."

The Reds are 12th in the National League Two South table, and travel to south-west rivals Taunton on Saturday.

"We haven't won away from home and we haven't got anything to lose in some respects," added Morcom.

"We need to go there and play some good rugby."

Redruth beat Taunton 24-18 at home earlier in the season, and Morcom said he noticed some aspects of the Titans' play which offered opportunities to his side.

"The way they play is very competitive and they like to run the ball," he said.

"We've done our research on them and it's key we exploit the things they're not so good at.

"After the disappointing loss last week it's important we start picking up away victories as well.

"We're going to be targeting this one, and obviously it's not as far to travel as away games like Shelford or Cambridge. It's important we go there with the attitude that we are going to turn them over and I firmly believe we can.

"We had them up front earlier in this year, like we do most teams so it's important we try to capitalise on that again and they do seem to be a little bit weak out wide defensively."
