667 Ian PratelyThe England I watched yesterday played a strong forward game but at no point were they on top. In the set-piece they were 2nd best. But they managed to win and that was done through a much improved backline performance. That's more like Australia play.I'm heartened by the rediscovery of some running form. Lancaster is doing something right so don't knock it!
Have just watched Scrum V.Some sense at last from the pundits, far too close to call at HQ. let's just hope it's a gret game.C'mon Wales :0)
Sport should played the way it was always meant to be played. It should not matter who won.or who, lostBoth teams like to play the sport they love. They are all winners..
@668 I was being ironic! Suggesting what a Welsh supporter may say about the two games, after a previous comment was made.
There is a lot of petty nonsense on here tonight My team is better than yours, their team let you win that sort of thing One thing that is certain and we can all agree on England is the only team in the N-H that is improving and getting better as we go towards the World cup
England are now clear favourites for the RWC
Can the bbc shift Sonia to interviews on womens rugby, snooker or curling please? Her rugby knowledge and respect for teams and coaches is deplorable.
@660 FelipeinSpain_Sinophil, to say Wales are certainly not good enough to win the championship is daft talk. They are double defending champions and have won 11 out of 13 matches in the six nations going into hq. You may not be a fan, you may even dislike them but they have earned the right to the respect that you clearly fail to give them. C'mon man, get a grip is it? Duw.
England played very well against an experienced Irish side, it was never going to be a rout. Except injuries, keep the same squad against Wales, except maybe Goode. Start with same team against Italy but bring on likes of Ford early for game time
BRILLIANT! Back to default rugby 6N rugby journalism - England vs Wales - who'd have thought it eh!? LOLWill fazzer be bumbling along to the show!
663. Bryandont believe for a minute that ireland are over the hill.i agree that possibly they should be blooding some younger players but i would say are odd on for the six nations this year so no not over the hill it was hardly a thrashing at hq anyway.
England are always going to play a forward base game and Lancaster is not going to change that
@660 We used to dread going to HQ, now we usually rock up, win by a 7point margin, then be home in time for last orders .. It's a nice day out nowadays.
645. Paul48 You're right; England did again squander chances which they shouldn't have, but hopefully they can rectify this by the WC. It's a hangover from the old English style of bludgeoning teams to death with the forwards and doesn't suit the current personnel. With the quality of wingers they now have, the ball should be spun wide more often to take advantage of good field position.
2nd best in the scrum and Ireland looked more potent from the set-piece, yet England found a way to win and should really have scored another try or two with more composure. Plenty of potential and more than a match for any team on their day, England must kick-on from here, cut out the silly errors and missed overlaps from 10 metres out. Then we will have a WC challenging team to dream about.
@659 - same logic from the Welsh - Ireland beat Wales (Ireland very good side), England beat Ireland (Ireland over the hill).
#659 Why is it OK for you to suggest that Wales didn't turn up for the Ireland game, but wrong for anybody to suggest that France were poor on Friday night?Assuming that Wales are not allowed to constantly take the scrum to the ground, then it is hard to call. Wales are favourites based on last season, but it could go either way.
If England had both Corbs and Cole available then they would have had parity or perhaps even dominance in the scrum - their one major area of weakness yesterday. Add these two into mix plus Manu and with a more experienced May and Yarde on the wings and this team is starting to look very very good and the squad will be strong enough to do well at the RWC. But Ford and Burns need some game time.
