Gloucester have appointed Nick Walshe and John Muggleton to their new-look backroom team.

After leading England U20s to their second successive Junior World Championship title last week, 39-year-old Walshe will take up the role of attack coach at Kingsholm.

Former Australia rugby league international Muggleton, 54, will become defence coach.

He has coached Georgia and Llanelli Scarlets.

Muggleton also worked as defence coach with Australia for 10 years and, most recently, held a similar role with Melbourne Rebels.

Gloucester chief executive Stephen Vaughan said: "John possesses a wealth of defensive know-how. He's got a tonne of experience at the very highest level and we're delighted to have someone of his calibre on board.

"And Nick Walshe is one of the brightest young coaching talents around. What he's achieved with the U20s in the past couple of years has been magnificent."

Both coaches will work under new director of rugby David Humphreys, who will switch from Ulster to Gloucester this summer.

Humphreys, who replaced Nigel Davies, is also expected to add a head coach to his team before the start of the season.

Gloucester have yet to confirm whether scrum coach Trevor Woodman, forwards coach Andrew Stanley and player-coach Mike Tindall will remain on the backroom staff.
