Leicester Tigers are to sign Cardiff Blues second-rower Lou Reed on a loan deal, BBC Radio Leicester understands.

Reed, 27, has five caps for Wales and joined the Blues from Scarlets in May 2012, signing a two-year extension at the Arms Park in February.

The 6ft 6ins lock would provide Richard Cockerill with cover for the injured trio of Ed Slater, Louis Deacon and Geoff Parling.

Tigers are fearful that Deacon may retire with his back problem.
