Courtney Lawes is a doubt for England's match against South Africa on Saturday, after suffering concussion in the 24-21 defeat by New Zealand.
But the 25-year-old Northampton Saints lock could still play at Twickenham if he passes medical tests.
Northampton centre Luther Burrell, who missed the All Blacks match with a hand injury, is not included in the squad.
He will continue to receive treatment at his club, while fly-half Stephen Myler is out with a hamstring problem.
England fell to a fifth defeat to New Zealand in 12 months and are looking to bounce back against the Springboks.
"The players will review the All Blacks game on Monday before moving on to prepare for South Africa," said England coach Stuart Lancaster, who has named a 34-man squad.
His matchday 23 will be announced on Tuesday and his starting line-up two days later.
Lawes has started his "graduated return to play" concussion protocol, meaning he could be eligible to play in the second of England's four autumn internationals.
