Exeter head coach Rob Baxter praised the attitude of England winger Jack Nowell following their 46-17 win over Newcastle in the Premiership.

Nowell has failed to make either of England's matchday squads in this year's Six Nations.

"He wants to play for England, he's part of the senior group and he goes up there training at the beginning of the week and has to come back.

"His attitude when he's back has been absolutely fantastic," Baxter said.

The victory kept the Chiefs in fifth place in the Premiership as Nowell scored his fifth try in seven games.

"I thought, picking him out in particular, he's starting to look quite comfortable with the additional muscular bulk he's got now and that was the sharpest he's looked this season," Baxter said of the winger, who missed England's summer tour to New Zealand and pre-season following knee surgery.

"He looked quick, he looked strong, he looked elusive and looked fit.

"Some of those issues are starting to get put behind him, and if he keeps putting in performances like that on a consistent basis he'll soon be back in a white shirt."
